Important People & Projects

The capsule wardrobe itself is a singular idea; there are many other challenges and projects that exist that capture the same message.

Art of Tidying

Marie Kondo is a Japanese author and influencer who has published 4 books on the art of tidying. In most people's minds, tidying up is associated with cleaning a house or fixing one's appearance. However, through Kondo's perspective, she believes that instead of looking for what to throw away when tidying up, she should be identifying the things she wants to keep. For her, this tie between knowing what she wants to keep and happiness was the art in tidying. Again, her ideas encompass the ideals that the capsule wardrobe presents: having less identifies what you love & makes you value more.

How Can Thrifting Clothes Help the Environment?

Jessi Arrington, graphic designer and founder of a design firm known as Workshop, spoke at a Ted talk about the benefits that thrifting can have on not only your personal style but also the environment. She addresses the serious problems that are arising due to fast fashion and how it has affected her personal decisions to almost never buy anything new. For her week long travel during this TED talk, she brought with her nothing but 7 undergarments for the 7 days. You may ask, who would ever travel a whole week without any clothing packed? Arrington finds all her clothes second-hand, meaning she is determined to buy outfits as the week progresses for her to wear from thrift stores around the area. This again goes along with her minimalist lifestyle and helps her bring awareness to others about the severity of the issue.
